Have you ever found yourself looking for the text of a public law or an act, but you don’t have the public law number or Statutes at Large citation? This week’s tip will illustrate how you can utilize two different sources in HeinOnline to search for the text by the popular name.

The Law Library maintains a subscription to HeinOnline free for law library users (in library access only).  Documents may be printed for $0.10 per page or delivered by email.  Court employees may access HeinOnline remotely and should contact the Reference Desk to obtain a password.

CANCELLED DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCY - March 2013 Legal Clinics at the Supreme Court Library

UPDATED 3/12/13:  THIS CLINIC HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCY

Nevada Legal Services will be holding two clinics at the Supreme Court Library on Thursday, March 14. The monthly Self-Help Forms Completion Clinic will run from 1:30-3 p.m. and the Education Clinic (Sealing Criminal Records) will be held from 3:30-5 p.m.  While the forms completion clinics are drop in, you must register for the education classes by calling 775-284-3491 x214. 

The schedule of educational clinics for the rest of the year is as follows:
April 11, 2013 - Bankruptcy Education
May 9, 2013 - Family Law Education - Adoption
June 13, 2013 - Guardianship Education
July 11, 2013 - How to File a Small Claim Case
August 8, 2013 - Bankruptcy Education
September 12, 2013 - Landlord/Tenant Education
October 10, 2013 - Family Law Education - Changing/Modifying Custody
November 14, 2013 - Sealing Criminal Records
December 12, 2013 - no education clinic will be held in December

Tax Forms Are Here

Thanks to the Nevada State Library and Archives, the IRS forms for 2012 are now available at the Law Library.  We are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Enter through the Stewart Street side of the building. 

2/7/13 ETA:  We do not yet have 1040 and 1040A instructions.  We hope to receive them by the 19th, but patrons may contact the library (775-684-1640) to verify they are in.

Free Legal Clinics at the Nevada Supreme Court Library

Nevada Legal Services has announced its 2013 Legal Clinic Schedule for the Supreme Court Library.  The monthly Self-Help Forms Completion Clinic will now be held on the second Thursday of the month.

NLS is adding the following education clinics in 2013:

March 14, 2013 - Sealing Criminal Records
April 11, 2013 - Bankruptcy Education
May 9, 2013 - Family Law Education - Adoption
June 13, 2013 - Guardianship Education

Carson City Clinics for Self-Represented Litigants


Nevada Legal Services will be holding the following clinics in Carson City in November and December.  If you are interested in clinics and educational classes in other parts of the state, check out NLS' News/Events page, as well as the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada's Calendar.

11/13: Self Help (Supreme Court Law Library) 1:30–3:30 pm
11/20: Guardianship (Supreme Court Law Library) 12:30–2:30 pm
11/29: Self Help (Carson Public Library) 1:00–3:00 pm

December 2012
12/11: Self Help (Supreme Court Law Library) 1:30–3:30 pm
12/20: Self Help (Carson Public Library) 1:00–3:00 pm

The Self Help forms completion clinics include general instruction regarding the completion of self-help forms.  A Notary Public will be available. Register by calling 775-284-3491 x214.

The Supreme Court Law Library is located at 201 S. Carson Street. Please use the Stewart Street entrance to the Supreme Court.  The Carson City Library is located at 900 N. Roop Street.
